Assessment

The teacher understands and uses multiple methods of assessment to engage learners in their own growth, to monitor 12learner progress, and to guide the teacher’s and learner’s decision making.

My work:

I created this assessment for use in a first grade force and motion unit.  It is designed to be given verbally with the use of props (a toy car, paper clips, and a rubber band) and one copy of the bottom half of the sheet to be used for each student’s answers.  Correct answers can be checked off in the left margin, and the teacher can write any comments in the space on the left.  After creating the assessment, I created a SMART goal, administered the assessment to ten of my peers, and analyzed the results.  Creating this assessment was valuable in my growth as a teacher because it helped me to consider different ways of assessing students’ learning authentically, as well as to learn about how to create assessments that are valid and measure the true learning of the student.  The analysis was especially valuable to me, because I realized both strengths and weaknesses in the assessment and learned how I could improve it before using it during student teaching.
