Professional Learning and Ethical Practice

The teacher engages in ongoing professional learning and uses evidence to continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the effects of his/her choices and actions on others (learners, families, other professionals, and the community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner.Teacher_Collaboration-450x333

My work:

One of Bridgewater College’s requirements of its seniors is the successful completion of a senior seminar class.  In Senior Seminar, teaching candidates put together the experiences and information they have learned from all past education classes; one aspect of this is the construction of a personal teaching philosophy.  This assignment helped me to synthesize my beliefs about teaching with the theories I have learned in the classroom and the professional development I have had in my practicum experiences.  Below is my philosophy of teaching, including relevant research and my own experience.

As part of my class on teaching writing, I wrote two papers on my philosophy about teaching writing, one at the beginning of the semester and another at the end.  It was interesting to see how my ideas changed over the course of the semester as a result of the instruction I received and the books that I read.  I believe it is important for teachers to continue to learn through classes and reading in order to continue to mold their ideas on teaching.
